DAVAO CITY – Davao Today associate editor Germelina Lacorte is one of this year’s recipients of a journalism fellowship from the Southeast Asia Press Alliance (Seapa), a prominent Asian media group.

Lacorte, who also writes for the Philippine Daily Inquirer, is among the 12 Southeast Asian journalists awarded the annual Seapa Journalism Fellowships.

She will spend four weeks in Sarawak, Malaysia, from May 10 to June 16, to report on the effects of global tourism and dominant religions on indigenous cultures. This year’s theme is “Religion, a Powerful Force for Change in Southeast Asia.”

Lacorte, 38, is a mass-communications graduate of the University of San Jose Recoletos in Cebu. She was a fellow at the UP Creative Writers’ Workshop in 2002 and the Iligan National Writers’ Workshop in 2003.

Another journalist from Mindanao, Allen Estabillo of BusinessWorld and MindaNews, was also awarded the fellowship. (davaotoday.com)
