DAVAO CITY – Thousands of workers and activists took to the streets of several Mindanao cities today, on the occasion of the 120th International Labor Day. Among their demands: an end to poverty, hunger and fascism, and the ouster of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

The biggest number of protesters were mobilized in Southern Mindanao. According to the organizers, some 10,000 participants from the provinces of Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley Province, Davao Oriental and North Cotabato gathered at Rizal Park in Davao City Monday afternoon.

In Northern Mindanao, an estimated 3, 000 protesters marched from the Capitol grounds in Cagayan de Oro City to the Divisoria amphitheater where a rally was held. The participants came from Bukidnon, Iligan City and Misamis Oriental.
