DAVAO CITY — Bayantel has announced that it is expanding its newest phone service project in the city.
Bayantel executives presented the company’s wireless landline service called Span to local officials led by Vice Mayor Luis Bonguyan at the City Hall last Friday.
Span, according to Bayantel, is basically a wireless phone about the same size as a regular mobile phone that is capable of making a call to any landline. The service “aims to deliver the key benefits of landline and wireless services in a single package,” according to Bayantel. A user can make unlimited landline calls inside or outside his home.
Initially, the company will provide the product in the areas from Sasa to Poblacion to Matina. Later, services will be expanded to Buhangin, Upper Matina and Toril.
Tunde Fafunwa, chief executive consultant of Bayantel, announced that Davao City is the fourth area in the country where they have introduced such service. The other areas are General Santos, Tacloban and in the southern areas of Metro Manila.
Bonguyan was pleased with the company’s decision to invest in Davao. “It is only appropriate that Davao improves its telecommunication facilities,” he said. He also considers the product as something that will “assist the economic capability of the region.”
Mars Santos, Bayantel’s provincial marketing head, said they introduced the product based on a study that indicated that 85 percent of calls made from mobile phones are to landlines within the locality.
