DAVAO CITY – The authorities said today that they are verifying the reported existence of a new terror group that calls itself “Tanzim Qaidat Al Jihad.”
Jose Maria Cuerpo II, spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines in Southern Mindanao, said in an interview by ABS-CBN here that they have yet to check the information with the intelligence community.
The group, said to have links with Jemaah Islamiyah, is supposed to have started recruiting members for terror activity in the region. The group also purportedly called for jihad.
Earlier, ABS-CBN cited information that the group had its graduation in January this year and that a series of kidnappings, assassinations and bombings in the cities of Kidapawan, General Santos, Zamboanga and Cotabato are part of their test mission. (Cheryll D. Fiel/davaotoday.com)
