Sherad Anthony Sanchez: Young and victorious

The independent digital film “Huling Baylan ng Buhi (The Last Priestess of Buhi)” by 21-year-old Davao filmmaker Sherad Anthony Sanchez won the top prizes, including best picture and best director, in this week’s Cinema One Originals competition in Manila. In an Inquirer story, Robbie Tan, the film producer who was one of the jurors, said “Huling Baylan” is “a well-conceived symphony of sounds and images, pushing the language of cinema across new boundaries.”

The film, which was shot in Davao using local cast and talent, is about the conflicts faced by an ethnic family in the ‘80s in their attempts to keep the tribe’s tradition, which is threatened with extinction by outside influences. Click here for Davao Today’s story on the film.

[...] Inquirer columnist Rina Jimenez-David describes as boring “Huling Baylan ng Buhi,” the award-winning film by young Davao filmmaker Anthony Sherad Sanchez. (David actually used the word “soporific” but she was just being nice.) In her column today, David also writes: “Riveting at some moments but confusing and confounding much of the time, “Huling Balyan” serves up a promising premise but falls over its over-burdened plot…” PREVIOUS STORY: Davao’s Virador Won’t Seek Congress Seat Possible Related Posts:The Daily Post (1/5/07)The Daily Post (1/7/07)The Daily Post (1/10/07)The Daily Post (1/9/07)Flight Schedules [...]

I have only one question for Sanchez - With all the nominations and awards that the film “Huling Balyan ng Buhi” reaped -Have you ever paid the company in Davao for the equipments that you used in filming and directing the said film? Have you ever paid fully the people of Davao that you utilized in the said production? and have you ever thought that without them your so called film would not have been come to being? and you would not have had those awards? If you believe in Karma then for sure karma would catch up on you!

Until now I am still waiting for Sherad Anthony Sanchez to pay me for the hardwork in doing his film. I know he can very well pay. But he chose to ignore the people who trusted his “gift”, and at least waited for his word of whatever, because I don’t think his parents did not teach him the value of asking apology where it is due.

Sherad, magbayad ka na! Otherwise yan pangarap mong maging tanyag na direktor…. hinding hindi mangyayari.
