Davao City Councilor Pilar Braga maybe overdoing her campaign against pornography on the Internet. In a privilege speech, according to this report, Braga raised alarm over the sight of “laptop-carrying executives accessing pornographic materials while leisurely sipping coffee in some cafes in the downtown area.” For that, she wanted to regulate wi-fi connections being offered by these bars and cafes.
While we share her concern that minors should be protected from online pornography (and that regulating Internet cafes for that purpose maybe a good idea), we don’t see any good in her new proposal to regulate as well wi-fi.
I totally agree with u! Down with Braga’s proposal!
Hats off to Councilor Pilar Braga for taking the road less travelled… People can be so cruel sometimes. They will insult you and ridicule you just for doing something which you think is morally and spiritually upright. But be vigilant, continue to work on your advocacies with pride. We are right behind you, Honorable Braga!
regulating wifi connection? geeez you really must be a gutsy person to view pornographic materials in a public place.
I think the best solution for that is not to regulate wifi connection but for wifi providers to block porn sites.

Regulating wi-fi connections is not the way to go.
If an adult were viewing pornographic material in the privacy of his home – it is no one’s business.
However, the “laptop-carrying executives accessing pornographic materials while leisurely sipping coffee in some cafes in the downtown area.” can be arrested for indecent exposure or displaying “obscene” materials in public.
Moreover, Davao’s lousy Internet connection does a good job at regulating access because the porn sites need to be accessed at sustained broadband speed to have a seamless downloading and viewing experience. LOL
