Suara Bangsamoro condemns the present military offensives in Sulu.

We condemn the continous attacks to MNLF areas specially the area of state chairman, Khaid Ajibun.

“Bakit ang attack sa MNLF ay lagi on the pretext na me ASG pursuit samantalang the MNLF made it clear na hindi nila kinakanlong ang mga ASG at JI sa kanilang camps.”

We support the call of the Organization of Islamic Countries calling for a stop to the offensives and respect and continue talks on the 1996 Final Peace Agreement. We thought that the OIC visit last MArch would open doors for peace negotiations in Sulu, but the present offensives again dampened our hopes.

We also fear that the military offensives and the call to defend MNLF areas by Ustadz Habier Malik will also affect the coming elections. We fear that the war will also be used as a pretext for the COMELEC to declare the area as election hotspot.

Should Sulu be tagged as election hotstop, this would be very unfair for those candidate who are running in Sulu. This is only the time that the voters have heard no gunfighting between candidates, all candidates have been cordial in their campaigns. No reports of election-related violence.

It would therefore be very unfair for some candidates, especially those not running under the administration ticket, should the canvassing of votes be done in military detachments and brigade as was done during the 2004 national elections.

We condemn the additional US troops and Filipino troops being deployed in Sulu. We call for the stop to military offensives.
