MANILA — Three people, including a boy, was killed when a bomb exploded this morning at a crowded bus terminal in Cotabato City. Twenty other people, including four children, were injured in the attack, wire reports said.

An Associated Press report said the explosion was caused by an improvised bomb left at the terminal gate. “Some of the injuries were life-threatening,” the AP quoted Senior Inspector Samsom Obatay as syaing. “Like in other explosions here, we suspect the local operatives of the Jemaah Islamiyah to be behind this.”

Reuters reported that the explosion destroyed a canteen inside the bus terminal.

“We’re still trying to establish the motive for the blast, but we can’t discount the possibility of a terrorist attack,” Paniares Adap was quoted by Reuters. He said most of the victims were inside the canteen when the bomb went off. (davaotoday.com)
