MANILA — Five people, including a 10-year-old boy, were injured when a bomb went off inside a passenger bus in Matalam, a town in Cotabato province, earlier today.

Police said the bomb was placed in a carton at the back of the bus and was triggered by a cellphone. Fortunately for the passengers, the bomb exploded while they were having lunch at a roadside eater, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Last month, a bomb exploded at a terminal in Cotabato, killing a boy and wounding several others. Authorities have been on high alert the past weeks.
