DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Mayor Rodrigo Duterte has served for six consecutive years as mayor. During that time, he cultivated a persona that is both respected and feared by the people of Davao. But achieving that is not half as important as using it as political capital to attain goodwill, which, after all, is the one thing a leader such as Duterte needs in order to govern effectively. And no one doubts that Duterte has tons of it.

Davao folks want some things done – and yet they keep on electing the same people who don’t get things done. HOY GISING!!!
It will be sad to see him leave. He has been good for Davao. One has to wonder what will happen when he leaves. Will his daughter follow his vision for Davao to fight crime. One has to realize, if it is a tough town the leaders have to be tougher. Not to say, abusive but protection of the people. A weak or bleeding heart leader can be easily manipulated but a harsh and cruel leader can be unfair to justice. Duterte has walked the line in a good way. It would be nice if he could stay on.
It’s time for Filipinos to change the constitution. Good leaders must stay for as long as they benefit the people. I have heard of many good things about Davao City Mayor. Many people love him for his courage to fight drug dealers and other crimes. I hope he will also fight prostatution as it is an evil practice that leads to problems, including AIDS.
