Airport security has been tightened at the Davao International Airport to ensure the safety of passengers, former Aviation Security Group (ASG) commander Supt Ramon Salvilla said.

Salvilla, who currently sits as consultant on peace and order of the city mayor’s office, said that efforts to curb terrorism have been stepped up to avert any movement of “threat groups”.

He added that that DIA pursues confidence-building measures and strong coordination with the ASG, the Philippine National Police, and the Armed Forces of the Philippines.

Salvilla announced that rigid searches and tight inspections are still needed as part of measures to keep the public away from harm and safeguard their lives and properties. He added that, aside from checking both checked-in and hand-carried baggages, cargo and luggages before passengers board their planes, mobile patrol and security teams are on standby at nearby stations.

He called on air passengers to be understanding because this is also for their own protection and safety. He added that boarding passengers should be on time in order not to disrupt mandatory searches.

“Davao City, under the leadership of Mayor Duterte and Vice Mayor Inday Sara, has consistently hammered out city’s efforts in achieving peace in the city,” Salvilla ended.(PIA Dispatch)
