A helicopter ferrying wounded soldiers from a recent encounter with the New People’s Army (NPA) in Davao Oriental only looks like a speck in the sky as new AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Alexander Yano vows to carry on the “sustained momentum” of retired Gen. Hermogenes Esperon and “end the Communist insurgency by 2010.” In Southern Mindanao, the NPA claimed “victories,” as government troops carry their wounded in the latest “tactical offensives.” (davaotoday.com photo by Barry Ohaylan)
