The spate of extra-judicial killings and enforced disappearances, which victimized more than a thousand unarmed legal activists, was the product of the counter-insurgency program. Likewise was the creation of the inter-agency legal action group (IALAG), an insidious task force the mission of which was to twist and bend laws and legal procedures, and to manufacture evidences and rehash witnesses to run after personalities from the legal left.

I mention all these, in the hope that I might be wrong to fear for my safety and that essentially, democracy is still in place in our city and all our civil liberties are still safely intact and out of harm’s way. I mention these, because I share in the collective aspiration of all freedom-loving citizens that one can be entitled to be progressive in your views and ideals. To be progressive, without being subjected to any harassment or intimidation of any form and extent.

Thank you very much.#
