Davao City-The City Council of Davao passed a resolution on September 2 authored by councilor Pilar Braga requesting the Air Transportation Office (ATO) and the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) for the installation of radars in the Davao International Airport.

Speaking at the weekly Club 888 at the Marco Polo Davao, Braga said a radar facility is necessity for DIA since it is an international airport.

“Here we have an international airport but we have no radar to track incoming and outgoing planes.” Braga said. She added that the recent Philippine Air Force C130 Hercules crash has revealed the lack of this important aviation facility in DIA.

In the resolution, the city government will ask the DOTC and the ATO for radars and will also ask for help from Davao City congressmen Isidro Ungab and Vince Garcia, as well as current House Speaker Prospero Nograles, whom Braga said are close to Malacañang and could facilitate the release of the radars.

Aside from air traffic facilities, councilor Braga said that DIA has much to improve on its facilities particularly on its comfort rooms, customer relation areas and lounges.

She said that the council is keeping in close contact with ATO for the improvement of the DIA facilities. She said that in the recent crash, public opinion and pressure has kept the ATO on its toes. (PIA)
