Misfis caravan for peace reaches out to far flung villages

Text and Photos by Jomel Hernani and Medel Hernani

In May, the five-day Caravan for Peace and Development by the Mindanao Interfaith Services Foundation Inc. (Misfi) stirred the community of the Ata-Manobos in the far-flung sitio (hamlet) of Muling in barangay (village) Gupitan with free medical and dental services to residents and supplementary feeding to children. They also conducted part of their literacy and numeracy program, herbal medicine making and health skills training; among others.

Located in Kapalong town of Davao del Norte, the sitio can be reached only after two days travel from Davao City, traversing numerous rivers and ravines along the way. It is where Misfi implements European Union-assisted Action Repair: Rebuilding Pathways towards Integral Peace and Development for the Uprooted People in Mindanao.
