Prestigious photo mag picks Davao photog for Boracay assignment

DAVAO CITY — The prestigious international magazine Digital Photographer Philippines (DPP) launched a partnership with Sony Ericsson and Seair to fly five photographers to select destinations in the Philippines and provide them with a photographic challenge and adventure.

Five photographers were handpicked for the first assignment, which is Boracay. The DPP team will take photos using their own cameras plus the Sony Ericssons latest Cybershot mobile phones. At the end of their assignment, the team will be interviewed and an article will be featured in DPP magazine about the challenge.

The team is set to leave for Boracay on July 20-22 and will stay in Boracay Tropics. The five photographers are Jay Jallorina (team leader, Makati), Jose de Luna (from Iloilo, based in Dharan, Saudi Araba); Joel H. Garcia (Quezon City); Basil Carating (based in Toronto); and Jojie Alcantara (Davao City), the only woman on the team.

Alcantara is a photojournalist and columnist in Davao since 1994. As an artist, she has had three art exhibits and four photo exhibits since 2001. Her articles were published in local and national publications like Woman Today, Mabuhay Magazine, and Zee Lifestyle Magazine of Cebu. She will be hosting the Kadayawan sa Davao festival parade coverage on SkyCable this August. She is also set to represent her group, Bubay, in the coming Sungduan Survey of Women Artists in Mindanao Exhibit in Cagayan de Oro.
