DAVAO CITY – The city needs bigger quarantine facility for Ebola-infected persons entering into the city, an official said Thursday.

Tomas Miguel S. Ababon of the Task Force Ebola (TF Ebola) of the City Health Office (CHO) said they asked the Bureau of Quarantine to find a place to quarantine not only those infected with Ebola but also those affected with other epidemic viruses in case they enter the city.

The Health Management Service of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) serves as the temporary quarantine area. The facility, however can hold only four patients.

“There are suggestions to use the old airport but it needs permission from the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC),” he said.

He said this would be deliberated first.

The TF Ebola has purchased personal protective equipment and ambulance and they are lent with a thermal scanner.

Mayor Rodrigo Duterte signed the Executive Order 48 that creates and constitutes the functions of the TF Ebola.

Ababon announced that as of today, the Philippines remained free of Ebola.(davaotoday.com)
