Pagasa warns of flashfloods, landslides in Mindanao areas

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astonomical Services Administration (Pagasa) has warned of possible flashfloods and landslides in certain Mindanao areas Friday afternoon following a heavy rainfall.

In its advisory at 2:55 PM, Pagasa noted the target areas which are the provinces of Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Bukidnon, Agusan Del Norte, Surigao Del Sur, Sultan Kudarat and the typhoon Pablo-hit Compostella Valley.

The weather station has advised the residents here “to be alert and take precautionary measures.”

For the past one hour, moderate to heavy rainfall with occasional thunderstorm has been experienced by residents of Talisayan town in Claveria Misamis Oriental; Liboron town in Misamis Occidental; the towns of Talakag, Sumilao and Baungon in Bukidnon; Conception and Jabonga towns in Agusan Del Norte; Cabangahan town in Surigao Del Sur; and in Columbio town in Sultan Kudarat.  The weather, Pagasa said, may continue for two to three hours.

The cities of Zamboanga and Cagayan de Oro are currently experiencing heavy rain, as well as the New Bataan town in Compostela Valley.

Meanwhile, Pagasa also updated that as of 11 AM, the Low Pressure Area was estimated at 570 km East of Virac, Catanduanes which will affect the Bicol Region, Visayas and Mindanao.  (davaotoday.com)
