4th mango conference set June 21-22 in Digos

DAVAO CITY — The 4th Mango Marketing Conference is scheduled on June 21-22, 2007 at CAP auditorium, Digos, Davao del Sur as organized by Southern Mindanao Mango Industry Development Council and Mindanao Fruit Industry Development Council.

Partner agencies and institutions include: Growth with Equity in Mindanao program USAID; Department of Agriculture-RFU XI; DA-Agribusiness Marketing Assistance Service; and the Provincial Agriculture Office, Davao del Sur.

The success of mango marketing conferences in the last three years have been encouraging. It supported claims of making Mindanao region particularly Region XI as a major supplier of high quality mangoes to both local and foreign markets.

To further boost Southern Mindanaos position as a major producer of good quality mangoes in the country, the SMMDC and the MINFRUIT council are jointly holding this 2-day marketing conference.

This years conference will mark the first time that this gathering will be held outside of Davao City. The organizers will be staging this years conference in Digos City in collaboration with DAVSUR Federation of Mango Associations.

This is to showcase Davao del Sur as one of the leading mango production areas and soon to be certified as pest-free production paving the way for the an accreditation as supplier to the Australian market.

This conference is part of the organizers ongoing efforts to support the local mango industry by providing venue for growers, buyers and other industry stakeholders to meet and establish mutually-beneficial partnerships particularly direct market linkages.

Discussion during the conference will focus on the most pressing issues and concerns affecting the mango marketing chain in the region and draw up strategies to establish direct linkages between growers and buyers; and bring out pressing issues from the industry and catalyze important stakeholders to coordinate efforts that will accelerate mango industry development.

The conference seeks to increase export volume and year-round availability by proper scheduling thru clustering of mango-producing areas in Southern Philippines; generate more farmer awareness on farming practices that comply with the food safety requirements of key marketing potentials abroad; and increase processed mango products by encouraging local entrepreneurs to undertake packages for value-add ons.
