TAGUM CITY, Davao del Norte, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) Board of Canvassers (BOC) here proclaimed Wednesday incumbent Vice Mayor Allan Rellon and Councilor Geterito Gementiza as the city’s Mayor-elect and Vice Mayor-elect, respectively.

As per total canvassed votes released by Comelec-Tagum City, Rellon got 54,492 votes while Gementiza got 51,845 votes.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod building was jam-packed with political supporters and constituents who witnessed the proclamation rite shortly before 12 PM.

“I am offering my gesture of reconciliation, let’s get back to work and let’s make Tagum a better place to live in,” Rellon said as he appealed to Tagumeños to unite and rally behind his administration “to achieve a common good.”

Gementiza, on the other hand, thanked his supporters for trusting him to lead the city’s 6th Council.

Both vowed to continue the city’s progress and development “by implementing vital economic and political reforms.”  They will assume office on June 30.

Comelec-Tagum is yet to proclaim the 10 winners for Councilors after ballots from the four remaining precincts will be canvassed.  Earlier, its office recorded a high voters’ turnout pegged at 74.5 percent.  (Mart D. Sambalud/davaotoday.com)
