‘Domeng’ maintains strength, batters areas of Visayas, Mindanao

DAVAO CITY (6TH UPDATE) — Tropical Depression Domeng continues to move very slowly across the South Philippine Sea.State weather bureau PAG-ASA, in its 10:00 AM weather bulletin today, spotted the center of Tropical Depression “DOMENG” estimated based on all available data at 360 km East of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur with a maximum winds of 55 kph near the center.

Tropical Depression Domeng is forecasted to move Northwest at 05 kph.

PAG-ASA said Domeng is expected to be at 280 km East Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur by tomorrow morning.

Light to moderate rains are now affecting portions of Compostela Valley, General Santos City, Agusandel Norte, Surigaodel Norte, Surigao delSur, which may continue for 2-3 hours.

By Friday morning, it will be at 210 km Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur and by Saturday morning, it will be 210 km North of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Domeng will pour affecting areas with an estimated rainfall amount is from 5.0 – 15.0 mm per hour (Moderate – Heavy) within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Depression.

Independent weather group Weather Philippines said that Eastern and Central Visayas including Surigao Provinces, Dinagat & Siargao Islands will experience moderate to Heavy rains of 30 to 50 mm are likely to occur beginning Friday morning until Monday morning.

The weather group reported Domeng is expected to continue moving northwestward slowly throughout the forecast period. On the forecast track, the core of TD Peipah will move across the southern edge of the East Philippine Sea on Thursday through Saturday morning.

Tropical Domeng is expected to re-strengthen within the next 24 hours and could regain Tropical Storm (TS) classification. However, after 48 to 72 hours Domeng will start to weaken as it moves closer to the coast of Eastern Samar.

Residents in these areas are advised to be always on alert and closely monitor the weather situation for possible changes in its forecast.
