Torrential rain displaces 344 individuals in Tagum

TAGUM CITY — Around 344 individuals from nine villages were displaced and later evacuated in an elementary school in this city after last night’s deluged due to heavy down pour of torrential rains.

A report obtained by DavaoToday revealed that these villages were Magugpo Poblacion, Magugpo West, Magugpo South, Magugpo East, Magugpo North, Mankilam, San Miguel, Apokon, and Visayan Village.

The torrential rain brought about by the Low Pressure Area (LPA) lasted for more than 4 hours has poured 157.8mm amount of rain based on the rain gauge monitor.

Authorities here claimed that such downpour is “equivalent to a month rainfall.”

Elsewhere in the city, the deluged last night in River side Purok Galingan in Tagum City was neck-deep, causing nearby residences to evacuate and was later belittled to higher grounds.

Meanwhile, Romulo Tagalo, Executive Director of Davao del Norte Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) told DavaoToday that “combined rescue teams came from LGU Tagum, Panabo, Kapalong and PDRRMC are closely monitoring the situation.”

“No casualties and sever damage to properties caused by the urban flooding were reported as authorities are still assessing the extent of flood,” Tagalo said. (Mart D. Sambalud/davaotoday.com)
