Dutch Ambassador Marion Derckx to grace Dutch-Filipino film fest in Davao

DAVAO CITY — Dutch Ambassador to the Philippines Her Excellency Marion Derckx is scheduled to grace the opening of the Dutch-Filipino film festival in Davao City on Saturday, July 30.

In a press release, Dakila artist collective, which partnered with the Dutch Embassy for the project, said Derckx is expected to open the film festival at 5:00 pm at the Abreeza Mall here.

The film festival which commemorates the 65 years of relations between the Netherlands and the Philippines, will showcase the best of Dutch and Filipino films. 

“Reflecting the strong commitment the two nations share to promote human rights, this festival will inspire sustainable innovations to address the global challenges ahead,” the group said.

The Festival will open with the screening of two films, Een Dag In’t Jaar (12 Months in 1 Day) by Margot Schaap and Miss Bulalacao by Ara Chawdhury.

The Dutch film, 12 Months in 1 Day, won the Special Newcomer Award and FIPRESCI (Int. Film Critics) Award at the IFF Mannheim- Heidelberg, while the Bisaya film, Miss Bulalacao, won Best Screenplay at the Cinema One Originals Film Festival and the Best First Feature Award from the Young Critics Circle.

Free screenings of Dutch and Filipino films will also be held at the FDCP Davao Cinematheque from August 2-5. The movies include A Family Affair by Tom Fassaert, Purok 7 by Carlo Obispo, Those Who Feel the Fire Burning by Morgan Knibbe, A Haunting Story by Ilse van Velzen/Femke van Velzen, Edna by Ronnie Lazaro, Shift by Siege Ledesma, Boys by Mischa Camp and Dutch and Filipino short films.

The film screenings is a special section of the Active Vista International Human Rights Film Festival organized by Dakila Davao.

The festival is co-presented by the Communication Majors’ Alliance of Davao, SWITO Corporation, Sine K’Mindanawon, Pasalidahay, UP Salida, JCI and the Ateneo Film Circle. (davaotoday.com)
