Thousands of individuals belonging to various militant groups in Northern Mindanao were held in police and military checkpoints along the national highway going to Iligan City to attend a protest action there in time for President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the National Address (Sona) Monday afternoon.

The approval of the Congress to extend martial law until December this year on Sunday has drawn various reactions from different sectors in the city.
The military on Friday has urged troops assigned in checkpoints and mobile patrols to afford the civilians with courtesy following several reports of individuals complaining of rude soldiers.
