CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Councilors have started looking into a proposal for the Moreno administration to build two more hospitals in the city–one in Lumbia and another in Tablon.

Councilor George Goking said the proposal is being reviewed by the city council’s committee on ways and means which he chairs.

Goking said the proposal came from Dr. William Bernardo, officer-in-charge of the City Health Insurance Office.

If approved, city hall would construct a one-level 105-bed hospital in each of the two barangays.

Councilor Ma. Lourdes Gaane said the proposed hospitals would serve residents in the city’s two districts.

“Kinahanglan na gyud ang dugang nga hospital aron ang mga pasyente gikan sa kabukiran maatiman na diha sa Lumbia, and then ang mga pasyente gikan sa Bugo, Puerto, Balubal, Agusan, Tablon ang madala na diha sa eastern side nga hospital,” she said.

Councilor Reuben Daba, chair of the city council’s committee on social services, said city hall also plans to build five more health centers.

Daba said the reason why some residents are forced to bring their patients to private hospitals is because the local government-owned JR Borja Memorial General Hospital is not enough.

“Tungod sa kakulian nga dili malikayan usahay walay financial backing, so ang mahitabo dili sila buhian sa private hospital,” he said.
