Deadline for Tax Filing Is April 17

DAVAO CITY — Bureau of Internal Revenuer (BIR) regional director Atty. Marcelinda Omila-Yap announced that the deadline for the filing of income tax returns has been moved to April 17, 2006 (Monday) since April 15 falls on Saturday which is a holiday.

Omila-Yap urged the taxpaying public to file their income tax returns early to avoid the rush.


Revenue district officer Jose Eric Furia, in an interview during the regular BIR radio program over DXRP Radyo ng Bayan said BIRs accredited banks will be open to facilitate payments.

RDO Furia, who was joined by Susan Tusoy, RDO assessment section chief; Beverly Montebon and Gely Guyo of the revenue district office urged business establishments to operate within the law and pay their business taxes correctly and promptly.

The BIR is undertaking strategies and methods to monitor business activities such as the BIRs tax mapping operation which could determine tax deficiencies on the payment of taxes.

Furia said the BIR revenue district office is also stepping up its Tax Verification Drive to make sure that business establishments are not violating government rules on registration, invoicing and bookkeeping.

On the other hand , Montebon told mediamen that common violations by taxpayers include the failure to register with the BIR and non-issuances of sales invoices or official receipts. Other common violations also include the use of unauthorized cash registers and point-of-sale machines.

RDO Furia said an on-going campaign has been focused on the business sector, the students, private sector to find out the latest update on tax implementation, rules and regulations.

There is a need for our taxpaying public to keep abreast on new tax laws to avoid violations and imposition of penalties, RDO Furia said.

For business establishments that are in operation but has not registered with the BIR or have no business permits, better make the necessary compliance before the BIR team comes and inspects your books of accounts and verify the legality of your business establishments, he added. (PIA-RBPalacio)
