Grant writing and advocacy writing workshops coming to Davao

Jul. 03, 2007

Need resources for your organization to stay alive? How about letting the world know that your organization exists and needs public support. A whole-day grant writing workshop will be held on July 9, 2007 covering research techniques, elements of a proposal, writing style and successful pitches that ensure a winning proposal. A writing exercise is included. You will learn that succinctness, substantiated data, and good writing will reap grant awards.

The next day, July 10, 2007, a whole day advocacy writing workshop will be held as well. There are tens of thousands of NGO’s, government agencies, LGU’s, and charitable organizations competing for public support. This workshop will teach your organization to gain much needed exposure through better newsletters, press releases, Letters-To-Editors, and feature articles. The elements of a powerful news article, samples of persuasive advocacy pieces and various ways of securing publicity will be reviewed.

Both workshops will be led by John L. Silva, a professional fundraiser and advocacy writer for various local and international publications. John’s thirty years of fundraising experience included being Development Director for international organizations such as Greenpeace, Oxfam America, and the American Cancer Society. He was also a grants officer and consultant to various funding organizations such as the North Star Fund, Synergeia Foundation and the Ford Foundation. He is currently a consultant and trustee to organizations like the National Museum, Ballet Philippines, Mangyan Heritage Society, Hands On Manila, and Synergeia Foundation. John is a contributing writer for various publications including the Asian Wall Street Journal, Philippine Inquirer, the Philippine Daily Star, Arts of Asia, Filipinas Magazine and other local and international publications.

Workshops are 1,500 pesos each day starting at 9:00 am and ending at 5:00 pm. Both workshops will be held at MEDCO, SSS Building, JP Laurel Ave., Davao City.
