IACAT 11 arrests American national for human trafficking, child abuse

DAVAO CITY – Government operatives arrested Monday last week an American national for child abuse and human trafficking.

The American national from Michigan, US. was identified as George William Nolan, 71 years old, He was arrested following reports that he was harboring minor children in his residence and after he was placed on surveillance and upon verification “that there were already pending warrants of arrest against Nolan”.

He was arrested by operatives of the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking in Persons-Network XI (IACAT XI Network) led by the Department of Justice-Regional Anti-Trafficking Task Force (DOJ-RATTF) and National Bureau of Investigation South Eastern Mindanao Regional Office (NBI-SEMRO) on Monday.

The NBI-SEMRO was accompanied by representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD-XI) and Davao City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO).

The Department of Justice said one of the rescued minor victim met Nolan sometime in August last year during the Kadayawan Festival through a common friend. Nolan reportedly offered to send the victim to school, provided the victim will live with him in his house.

The victim accepted the offer, wanting to continue and finish his studies.

The victim told investigators that he was shocked when while living with Nolan, the latter made sexual advances by performing oral sex on the victim who is now 17 years old.

The sexual exploitation continued for more than one year until the accused was arrested.

Nolan is now subject for inquest investigation before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Davao City for Qualified Trafficking in Persons and Violation of R.A. No. 7610 (Anti-Child Abuse Law).(davaotoday.com)
