Feb. 21, 2008

The National Food Authority announced the February 8 arrival of some 283,000 bags of MV Thai Binh rice imports, 25 percent of which are broken long grain Vietnam rice.

The rice imports, scheduled for unloading at the TEFASCO Wharf in Tibungco, will beef-up the supply of rice in the city and its neighboring Mindanao provinces; namely, Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley, Davao Oriental, North Cotabato and Maguindanao.

Davao City is expected to disperse part of the stocks to other provincial offices.

Engr. Lorenzo Camayang, NFA Davao City manager, said that while the import operations is almost always hinged with the dispersal, Davao City residents need not worry because majority of the 283,000 bags is first and foremost for the buffer stock of NFA Davao City, and will be for distribution thru its accredited retailers.
