Prices of Goods Can Now Be Checked Via Text

Apr. 04, 2006

DAVAO CITY—Prices of basic commodities at the Bankerohan public market here are now available right on the consumers’ cell phone, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the region.

All that consumers have to do is text DTI PRESYO then send it to 2256 for Globe, Smart, and Sun Cellular subscribers to find out the current prices of the basket of commodities in the DTI list. Each text message is worth P2.50.

Among the commodities monitored are batteries, corned beef, canned fish, detergent bar, instant noodles, luncheon meat, matches, fish sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, candles, condensed and evaporated milk, coffee refill, iodized salt, laundry soap, meat loaf, powdered milk, and bath soap, said DTI information officer Jenny Mendoza.

The project is tagged as “Text DTI Presyo,” aimed at providing the consumers the list of prices of a number of goods through text or short messaging service (SMS).

Although the region update their prices to DTI everyday, prices available online are only updated every Tuesday. Consumers are advised to specify their region. DTI is only monitoring selected certain markets nationwide–including the Bankerohan public market in this city, where the prices of goods that would be transmitted to consumers will be based from.
