Oct. 15, 2014

DAVAO CITY – The 6th SummIT 2014 which will bring together global and domestic information and communication technology (ICT) experts will be held this coming October 24 in Davao City.

Part of the SummIT is the 3rd eGovernance (eGov) Awards of Excellence in ICT for Good Governance which aims to promote effective use of ICT in the delivery of services and performance of local government units.

Speaking before media during Club 888 forum Wednesday, National ICT Councils in the Philippines (NICP) President Wit Holganza, said the conference would bring together Information and Communication Technology councils from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Asian countries including Brunei, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand will also participate.

Seventeen (17) local government units (LGUs) in the country will compete for the awards, thirteen (13) of which are under Government to Customer (G2C) empowerment category, while four belongs to Government to Business (G2B) category.

G2C Award recognizes the LGU’s practice in applying ICT solutions in educating and engaging the public in the use of electronic facilities towards an improved, timely, and relevant delivery of public services. While G2B Award acknowledges the LGU’s practice in integrating ICT in creating a business-friendly and competitive environment.

Holganza said that there are four criteria that served as the basis for the selection of the award, namely: innovation, sustainability of the project, relevance of the technology to the role of the local government units and the problems they face, and replicability.

She said that during the awarding, representatives from the different finalist LGUs will be given 5 minutes to present their projects in relation to ICT.

“The winners will be announced during the activity,” Holganza said.

The awarding body is the National ICT Conference in the Philippines (NICP), a non-stock, non-profit organization composed by ICT councils in the Philippines in collaboration with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

Last year, the local government unit of San Fernando City, La Union  which was categorized under G2C, won first place in the eGov Excellence Award.

The SummIT will start at 8am at the SMX Convention Center in Lanang. (davaotoday.com)
