DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The City Tourism Operations Office announced on Thursday the start of the Life is Here Logo Design Competition, which looks to the public for a new logo that will encapsulate the city’s tagline, “Life is Here.” The winning logo will be used for the 80th Araw ng Dabaw in March this year.

“Our city mayor wanted this year’s celebration to be more interactive, that is why we are letting the public design the new logo,” said City Tourism Officer Generose Tecson.

The original logo, and its accompanying tagline was originally crafted by the late artist Rey “Bai” Manginsay in 2011.

“The design of the logo should be versatile in its application and must embody the essence of why “Life is Here” in Davao. it should communicate the City as proactive, progressive, and innovative, which despite the uniqueness of its culture, is united, strong, and resilient when facing challenges as well as a preferred tourism destination”, Tecson said.

The contest is open to all residents, and groups and organizations registered in the city. Each participant may submit up to three entries. The contest accepts entries both in digital and free drawn formats.

Digital entries must be in at least 600 dots-per-inch, and should fit the A4 size. Digital entries must be submitted in jpeg format of at least 300 pixels and must come with its original raw file (.psd, .ai., or corel). Freehand works must fit in an 8×10 short bond paper.

Entries must be submitted separately, with a brief description not exceeding 500 words, and a Barangay Certification of Residency.

Submissions must also include the name, address, organization, contact number, and email address of the contestant.

Interested contestants may submit their entries to City Tourism Operations Office Davao, 2nd Floor, Davao City Pasalubong Cener Bldg., Palma Gil Street, Davao City, or email to dvolifeisherelogocontest2017@gmail.com until Feb. 10, 2017.

Three winning logos will be announced on Feb. 16 and will receive P50,000, P30,000, and P20,000, respectively. (davaotoday.com)
