Sports colosseum, bridge eyed in Davao del Norte

May. 18, 2015

TAGUM CITY— Davao del Norte Governor Rodolfo del Rosario is eyeing the preparation of documents for the future construction of a sports colosseum and a bridge connecting Panabo City and the Samal Island before his term ends on 2016.

Del Rosario said the projects are part of the sports tourism thrust in Davao del Norte.

The sports colosseum, which will be erected within the premises of Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex, is a multi-purpose building that will provide billeting quarters for the athletes, officials, venues of various sports, and commercial establishments.

“The planned colosseum will have four floors. Commercial buildings will be accommodated at the first floor; the colosseum is at the second floor, the hotel is at the third floor while the fourth floor will be for the food establishments,” said Del Rosario.

“It takes time to put a colosseum and we need to have enough funding to construct this big project,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, a bridge connecting Panabo City and Samal Island will allow tourism and developments in the said areas.

“It is my dream that Samal will be a retirement haven in the Davao del Norte. In order to achieve this, we need to have a bridge to allow fast delivery of goods and services in the Samal island,” says Del Rosario.

A 90-million worth of feasibility study is being solicited from National Economic and Development Authority to materialize all these plans, according to Del Rosario.

But he admitted that all these plans will not be constructed under his watch as his term is about to end.

The governor is “hopeful” though, that once all the necessary documents will be approved, his successor will push through with the plans. (davaotoday.com)
