DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The Philippine Red Cross-Davao City Chapter is targeting about 3,000 runners on this year’s Million Volunteer Run (MVR), an official said.

“Our target is at least 3,000 runners. Hopefully, fingers crossed we reach our target,” PRC Davao City Chapter Service Representative for fund generation, Gwen Cachuela told reporters during a press conference on Friday, July 28, held at SM Lanang Premier.

Carrying the theme “Run to Save Lives”, the event is part of the 4th edition of the nationwide Million Volunteer Run, the largest humanitarian run to be participated by all other chapters and areas around the country.

Cachuela said the event will be held on August 13, and is aimed to raise public awareness on the major services offered by the organization and as well as raise fund operation expenses.

“The beneficiary of this is the Red Cross itself. So this is actually a fund raising event which would promote awareness for the following services of the Red Cross and at the same time raise funds for our operational expenditures,” Cachuela said.

Apart from the health services, Cachuela cited that PRC also renders five other major services namely blood services, safety services, disaster and management services, red cross youth services and welfare services.

Given with the said major services, Cachuela said they are in need for more volunteers to help give services to the public.

“We have so many activities every month or for the whole year in which we need volunteers to assist us and help us with our activities,” Cachuela said.

“Anyone can volunteer. There is no age limit as long as the person is capable and is willing to give or share his/her time and skills. With regards to the number, we need to gather volunteers as many as we can,” Cachuela added.

The 10k run will kickoff at 5:30 in the morning while the 3k and 5k run will follow shortly starting from the PRC Building in Roxas Avenue here down to designated turnaround routes along J.P. Laurel Avenue (3k – Jollibee; 5k – Davao Light and Power Company; 10k- Toyota Motors Davao).

The 3k and 5k registration fees cost P100 (inclusive of race bib and runner’s certificate) and P250 (inclusive of race bib and runner’s certificate and singlet) while 10k registration fee is P350 (inclusive of race bib and runner’s certificate and singlet).

“I would like to invite everyone to be part of the largest humanitarian run, the Million Volunteer Run 4, it’s happening on August 13,” Cachuela said.
