ComVal offers new destination for ‘Visit Davao Summer Fest’

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Compostela Valley province is getting ready as the newest participant of the Visit Davao Summer Festival (VDSF) set on April 30 to June 15.

Compostela Valley Tourism Officer Christine Dompor, during Monday’s Kapehan sa Davao press conference, said the local government of ComVal will showcase the beauty and eco-tourism of the province.

“We are offering from the highlands to the islands activities,” said Dompor.

With the theme “Longfest and Widefest”, the summer tourism campaign is a ten-week celebration full of sports, cultural, arts, party and leisure activities.

The festival will cover more of the Davao region namely Davao City, Sta.Cruz, Davao del Sur, Island Garden City of Samal, Davao del Norte, Mati City, Davao Oriental and it now includes Compostela Valley province.

Activities in Compostela Valley include an Aquathlon, swim and trek race, which will take place at the province’s newest destination, the Kopiat Island at Barangay Pindasan, Mabini town; the “Bubayi Climb”, an all women climb to Mt. Amakan; and the Duyan festival at the Lake Leonard, in Small Leyte, Maco town among others.

One of its highlights is the #MarsAttack which will gather a thousand mountaineers at Mt. Candalaga in Maragusan town from May 24 to 27.

Dompor also assured that the local government of ComVal is working with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to ensure the safety of the public joining the slated events for the upcoming VDSF 2018.

Dompor added the the areas being opened for tourists are safe and were already cleared by the military, “We assure the participants of their safe stay during the adventure schedules we offer in our province.”

“So far we have done this (fun and adventure events) for nine long years, there have been no incident involving the insurgency,” said Dompor.

Visit Davao Summer Festival is initiated by the Department of Tourism and the private sector headed by the Davao Fun Sale Execom composed of tourism stakeholders including the Davao Hotels and Resorts Sales and Marketing Association (HRSMA), Restaurant Owners Association of Davao City (ROADC), the Visit Davao Tours Consortium, the MICE Organizers Ventures Davao (Move Davao), Davao Wellness and Spa Association of Davao City.
