DAVAO CITY, Philippines —- Members of the security forces will not be able to have their own photos taken with the Miss Universe contestants when they arrive in the city next week, said Police Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan of the Police Regional Office 11.

“We have banned selfies. Our personnel should not worry about their pictures. They will be documented by our photographer, videographer as they perform, not through selfies because our security personnel will be distracted. They might go thinking about the selfies and not about security anymore,” Gaerlan said in a press briefing on Wednesday, Jan.11.

Gaerlan maintained that he will be strict in imposing this measure, saying that he himself will serve as an example.

“‘Pag may nakita akong na-ipost sa facebook, imbestigahan ko agad” (If I see a selfie posted on Facebook, I’ll investigate it right away,” Gaerlan said in jest.

Some 400 policemen will provide security detail to 40 out of the 85 candidates who will be visiting the city’s tourist spots on Jan. 19.

A fashion show will also be held in SMX Convention Center in Lanang later that day. A total of at least 3,000 police, military, and other security personnel will be manning the streets for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit, which will also be held in the city next week.

Meanwhile, Gaerlan also appealed to the public to help in making sure that the city is safe and secure during the activities.

“We need the support and cooperation of all people. Let us show our best, let us show what Filipino hospitality is, kung ano po ang hospitality na pinapakita ng mga Dabawenyos,” Gaerlan said. (davaotoday.com)
