DAVAO CITY— One of the major events on the past years of Kadayawan, the “Sayaw Mindanaw” was being adopted now by the private sector in the upcoming festival this month.

Art Boncato, Jr., co-chairperson of the Kadayawan 2016 executive committee, said that Sayaw Mindanaw which was a main event in the past years in Kadayawan will be adopted by the SM City Davao.

“The Sayaw Mindanaw will be adopted by SM (to) make the private sector a major part of the celebration,” she said.

Boncato said that it is still part of the final event in Kadayawan festival this year “except that it is not going to be a competition probably the time element that we faced now.”

“Perhaps in the future SM can bring it back into a major competition during the Kadayawan,” he said.

Boncato added that the event will be part of the “Tribuhanong Pasundayag” which is the evening cultural show in Rizal Park.

The show will feature performances by the 11 tribes including the “Sayaw Mindanaw, Tunog Mindanaw and Bantawan.”

“Rizal park will actually be the Kadayawan park for the whole week because all of the cultural activities, specially in the evening, will be a major feature at the center of the city,” he said.

Meanwhile, a new addition to the Kadayawan festival would be the Lumad photo exhibit of the 11 tribes here including the Ata, Iranun, Kagan, Klata Djangan, Maguindanao, Maranao, Matigsalug, Ovu-Manuvo, Sama, Tagabawa, and Tausog tribes.

Dubbed as “Kinabuhi”, the photo exhibit will be at the Durian Dome located at the People’s park.

“Now it will then proceed to an ecumenical mass to be celebrated together with Archbishop Romulo Valles at the great lawn of the park,” he said.

Boncato also said that the much-awaited floral float parade called, Pamulak festival will have 15 competing floats and “that those under the noncompeting will be lesser.”

“We also have a new directive that since this is a floral float parade, we want the experience of our visitors and Dabawenyos is to see a floral parade from the beginning to the end,” he said and advised those who will join the parade to have a floral theme.

Boncato said that the Davao Horse Club, which will open the floral float parade “agreed to decorate their horses to have a floral theme.” (davaotoday.com)
