DAVAO CITY, Philippines – “These are stories that needed to be told.”

This was how writer and film director Bani Logroño described the recent two films shown here and the films they hope to create in the future.

Two films were shown Monday, July 4, at the Abreeza Mall as part of their advocacy called “Bring the Roadshow to the Youth”, to share stories of unknown Filipino WWII heroes through historical films and documentaries to as many cities around the country as possible.

During Wednesday’s Habi at Kape, Spyron-AV Manila Managing Director Lucky Guillermo, said their group had completed 169 roadshows around the country for the past three years. He said they started making documentaries about the World War II in 2000.

The 2015 film “Unsurrendered 2: The Hunters ROTC Guerillas” is a multi-award winning documentary which depicts the story of bravery of young Filipinos in the 20th century during the Japanese era.

Among the 300,000 underground army formed were the “Hunters ROTC Guerillas” known as the first and the youngest Filipino resistance fighters.

Another story of bravery shown on the big screen was about a teenager from Visayas who turned into one of the fiercest guerrilla commander during the WWII, entitled “Valor: The Legacy of Col. Emmanuel V. De Ocampo” (2016).

Col. De Ocampo was responsible for liberating many areas in Southern Luzon such as Makati, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig and other neighboring towns.

“These stories are about young kids, they are just college students when they fought during the war and that’s what resonated in me. No matter what age you are or where you came from, you can do what you can to help the country to fight for what you believe in,” Logroño said.

Logroño said that the stories they tell through the films are some of the most inspiring stories in the history and yet not a lot of people know about it yet.
“I want to share these with everyone not only to remind people about the sacrifices that our veterans made in the past but also to inspire the next generation of heroes here in the Philippines,” he said.

Meanwhile, Guillermo said they are planning to create a film about the story of the “Battle of Ising”, a story of victory that occurred in Carmen, Davao del Norte in 1945.

Logroño added that the next roadshows will be held later this year in Pampanga and Baguio.(davaotoday.com)
