3 fire incidents hit Davao City in a week

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least three fire incidents hit Davao City this week with the cost of damage reaching to more than P4.3 million.

The latest incident was the fire in Purok 34, Barangay Maa, Davao City on Thursday, December 7. A total of five houses were totally damaged, affecting five families and four boarders.

Initial investigation showed that the estimated cost of damage reached P150,000.

Fire Inspector Esequil Tabon, chief for operations of the Davao City Fire District told Davao Today that a two-year-old baby boy who suffered a minor burn and a pregnant woman “who panicked” were rushed to a nearby hospital after the fire broke out.

Tabon said the fire started around 3:16 pm at the second floor of the house owned by Julia Valencia. A fire out was declared by 5 pm.

He said they are yet to confirm the cause of the incident but he mentioned the possibility of an electrical short circuit.

“Witnesses said they smelled burnt wires prior to the incident,” he said.

On Tuesday, December 7, a 74-year-old man was killed while hundreds were homeless after a fire razed in Purok Pag-Asa in Barangay 5-A Bankerohan here. The fire caused an estimate of P500,000 in damages.

Meanwhile on Wednesday dawn, some 25 families were affected after a fire gutted a residential area in Purok 24-B Times Beach in Barangay 76-A with damages reaching to P3.7 million.
