Beaches, resorts in Davao closed for Holy Week

Mar. 31, 2021

Beaches and resorts in Davao City will be closed to the public during the Holy Week from April 1 to 4 as ordered by Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to prevent public gatherings that might transmit COVID-19.

The mayor released on Monday Executive Order No. 19 of 2021, which states that all beaches, beach resorts, and other inland resorts in Davao City will be close to the public from April 1 to 4, and prohibits persons from gathering or entering to such premises.

Mayor Duterte-Carpio explained in her program in Davao City Disaster Radio that the closure of beaches and resorts during the Lent season is to prohibit people from mass gathering in light of the second wave of a surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.

The mayor added that due to long vacation for Holy Week and weekends there is a huge tendency that the youth will go out of their houses because they don’t have school works.

Another reason is the recent incidents of minors who drowned while swimming in beaches.  The mayor added that minors violated the general community quarantine guidelines that prohibit them from going out in the public unless for essential or emergency need.

The new EO will be implemented by the Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) with the assistance of Davao City Police Office (DCPO), Task Force Davao (TFD), Philippine Navy (PN), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and other units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
