City government reiterates info on temporary road closures for Alveo Ironman 70.3

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The city government of Davao has reminded the public on the scheduled temporary closure of road networks starting today, March 22, due to the series of race events in the city.

The race event IronGirls which will commence today, March 22 will utilize the northbound lane of R. Castillo St. from Go Green Gas Station to the intersection of J.P. Laurel Avenue and R. Castillo St. (Alcantara). This road networks will be closed from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. today.

Likewise, the northbound lane of R. Castillo St., from corner Jerome St. to the intersection of J.P. Laurel Avenue and R. Castillo St. (Alcantara) will also be closed on Saturday, March 23, starting from 4:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. for the conduct of IronKids event.

The public is also reminded that the southbound lane of R. Castillo St. will be open to the public for two-way traffic.

The city government has announced the alternative routes that vehicles can access while the series of events are facilitated on the above-mentioned streets.

Vehicles coming from the south may take alternate routes via JP Cabaguio Avenue, JP Laurel Avenue, Dacudao Avenue, or CP Garcia in Buhangin.

Commuters from the north can utilize the alternate routes via CP Garcia (Buhangin), Sasa, Lanang, or JP Laurel Avenue.

On Sunday, March 24, Davao City will be hosting the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao triathlon. With the big event, the Daang Maharlika Highway from Davao City going to Panabo City, Carmen, and Tagum City will be affected.

The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) has already posted early traffic advisories, including alternative routes for there will be road closures to be implemented for the event.

On Sunday, the northbound lanes of JP Laurel Avenue from corner F. Torres St. to R. Castillo St. will be closed at 3:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. From R.Castillo St. going towards Robinson Tagum, both directions will be closed from 3:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. By 10: 30 a.m., the southbound lanes will be opened, while the northbound direction will remain closed until 12: 30 P.m.

CTTMO head Dionisio Abude told reporters that they are circulating flyers to establishments and subdivisions to inform them regarding the upcoming Ironman event.

He added that starting from 12:00 a.m. on March 23, the CTTMO will start its clearing operations against those vehicles illegally parked in the streets mentioned.

The Alveo Ironman 70.3 will be held in Davao City for the second time, noting the successful hosting of the same sporting event last 2018.

Thousands of professional triathletes from different countries, including Philippines, are expected to join in one of the biggest triathlon competitions. (davaotoday.com)
