DAVAO CITY, Philippines – At least 15 students from Davao City will study in China through a bilateral agreement with one of the foreign nation’s cities.

City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said Monday, December 4, said the students are part of an exchange program where they are given a grant to pursue a four-year undergraduate degree in Nanning.

Nanning, Davao’s sister city since 2007, is the capital of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China near the Vietnamese border.

At a special session on Monday, councilors approved an ordinance that authorized Duterte-Carpio to enter into an agreement with Nanning which in turn would formalize the study program of the 15 students.

Approved was a memorandum of agreement for the 2017-2019 education exchange and cooperation between Davao City and Nanning City that covers the tuition, accommodation and medical insurance in designated colleges or universities in Nanning.

On June 9 this year, the Chinese city government sent a 44-member delegation for a cultural and trade event to celebrate its ten years of friendship with Davao City. (davaotoday.com)
