Mar. 30, 2007

DAVAO CITY — The establishment of the much awaited Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Mindanao, Inc. (JCCM) will be formalized in an inauguration ceremony to be held 1:15 P.M. on Saturday, March 31, at the Davao Trade and Convention Center followed by a cocktail reception at the Zakoya Restaurant along F. Torres Street.

The establishment of the JCCM is a fulfillment of the Japanese peoples long-time vision to contribute significantly in the improvement of Mindanaos economic environment, according to Consul Koji Mitsui of the Consular Office of Japan in Davao.

He added, Its about time that a Japanese Chamber of Commerce is established here in Mindanao, not just in Manila and Cebu, considering the long years of friendship and co-operation between the Japanese and the people of Mindanao.

The upbeat political and peace and order situation in the island, Mitsui said, also encouraged the Japanese business community in Mindanao to push through with the establishment of the JCCM, believing that they can collaborate with other business groups to make Mindanao more competitive and make it more attractive for Japanese and other foreign investors.

The inauguration will be graced by prominent members of the Japanese community in Davao City, as well as other Mindanao areas, who organized themselves and pursued the establishment of the JCCM. Key city government and business officials, as well as guests from the Embassy of Japan in Manila, are also expected to attend the grand ceremony.

A non-profit organization, the JCCM aims to promote mutual cooperation among Japanese affiliated companies in Mindanao, and to create mutual trust and build solid partnership and cooperation with Philippine corporations.

The establishment of the JCCM, according to the group, is also a reaffirmation of Japans continuing support to the Philippine Governments effort to achieve genuine progress and lasting peace in Mindanao.

Considering the many positive developments of a relationship between Japan and Mindanao, the group said, they have high hopes that the inauguration will have great impact not just on business but in all other aspects of Japan-Mindanao relations. (JCCM-PIA XI)
