Mayor wants deeper probe on city employees dealing with illegal drugs

Dec. 27, 2020

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – Mayor Sara Duterte wants a police investigation on two city government employees arrested in separate drug buy-bust operations.

The mayor made this statement on her Special Hour program over DXQQ Disaster Radio last week, on the involvement of city government employees involved in illegal drug activities despite the implementation of city ordinances that mandates drug-free workplaces under the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (CADAC).

The mayor said the arrests of the two tarnished the credibility of the whole local government that is strongly campaigning the ‘War on Drugs’ of the Duterte administration.

The employees arrested are Erwin Decano, age 22, an employee of the Davao City Agriculturist’s Office, who was nabbed by police on December 7 with alleged possession of shabu.

The other employee, Al Sherwin Navacilla Ng, an employee of the City Treasurer’s Office, was arrested on December 16 inside the Sangguniang Panglungso Annex Building with possession of illegal drugs worth P15,000 allegedly hidden in a candy wrapper.

Mayor Duterte said an employee with a Job Order (JO) status will be immediately relieved to its position once caught associated with illegal drugs while those in Plantilla position will be referred to the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) for appropriate action.

The two-faced charges violating Section 5 and 11 of the Republic Act 9165 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. (davaotoday.com)
