The Philippine Eagle named Pag-asa turned 23 years old Thursday. Pag-asa was hatched in 1992 and became the first case of successful breeding of a Philippine Eagle in captivity, according to Dennis I. Salvador, executive director of the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF).

Pag-asa is reported in good health and the foundation hopes “he can produce another chick in the next breeding season.”

Salvador said there are only 400 pairs of Philippine Eagle remaining in the wild.
