DAVAO CITY, Philippines — Raid-hailing service provider Grab Philippines is eyeing to unroll another feature in Davao three years after it tapped taxi fleets to use their mobile app.

A study is being done to test whether it is feasible to offer GrabCar in the city, Leo Gonzalez, Grab’s head of public affairs, told a press conference on August 20.

Currently, Grab users in Davao are only limited to GrabTaxi, a service that outsources rides from taxi companies that have partnered with the tech startup.

On the other hand, GrabCar allows users to pick between sedan car to take them to their destination. In Manila, base fare for the service hovers at P30.00, with an additional fee of P12.00 per kilometer.

Gonzalez stressed part of the study is to determine whether a strong demand for the said service exists. Meanwhile, Grab has relayed to the Land Transportation and Franchising Board (LTFRB) of the plan.

Some 1,300 taxi drivers in the city are using the app as of this year, said Jose Thor Villareiz, Grab Davao Manager. But the figures slipped from 2,600 when the company launched the service in 2014. (davaotoday.com)
