DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A Davao-based herbal manufacturer is securing license from the Department of Agriculture (DA) to proceed with the development of its new product that terminates odor from animal residues.

Virgilio Sangutan, product developer of Invent Foods Manufacturing, Inc., bared their new innovation to the media on Monday, August 28.

Virsan, a product not out yet in the market, is a spray that could be used in poultry, piggery farms, dumping sites, among others, “to give solution to the problems of strong and unpleasant odors.”

Sangutan did not disclose the product’s ingredients to the media, but instead distributed information that said Virsan contains natural phyto-enzymes responsible for “terminating” odor in animal wastes.

“We’re just preparing (the requirements) for approval by the Fertilizer and Pesticide Authority (FPA),” he told reporters.

FPA is an agency under the DA which regulates fertilizer and pesticide products in the country.

Sangutan said their company targets agricultural companies that dispose animal wastes that often become a huge problem in surrounding communities.

Removing odors from animal wastes, he said, would in turn get rid of house flies which are carriers of diseases harmful to humans.

An estimated P300,000 has been invested for the research and development of Virsan which stretched for up to six months, said Sangutan, who is also the president of Davao Inventors Association.

Apart from agricultural companies, Sangutan also aims to tap the local government as its target market, saying the product could also be used in dump sites and slaughter houses.
