USEP Students Win Top Invention Awards

DAVAO CITY Students from the University of Southeastern Philippines College of Engineering students bagged the first place in three out of five categories in the Project Research Invention Contest during the Second Regional Engineering Congress held early this month at the NCCC Mall, Davao City.

Agricultural, commercial and industrial were the categories won by the fourth year electrical engineering and fifth-year electronics and communications engineering students of USEP.

Project titles of the winning entries are as follows: Enhancing the Scaled-Up Prototype of the Automated Irrigation System; Self-Service Coin Pre-paid Card Operated Gasoline Station; and Lumbang (Aleurites Molucanna) as Kerosene Substitute.

Students from Ateneo de Davao University, University of Immaculate Conception, University of Mindanao, John Paul II College, Holy Cross of Davao College, St. Marys college of Tagum City, Cor Jesus College of Digos City and other schools in the City participated in the contest.

The event was hosted by the Council of Deans for Engineering Education XI, CHED XI, DOST XI, Philippine Inventors Association, NCCC Mall, IECEP, PIChe and various academic institutions in Davao City.

On the other hand, one of the papers co-authored by a faculty of the College of Arts and Sciences, USEP, Mr. France Fletcher Freire bagged 1st Place in the National Aquatic Resources Research and Development System (NARRDS) best paper award.

The paper was entitled A comprehensive Analysis of the Ecological Factors for the Development of Strategies to Sustain Coastal Biodiversity and to Improve Fish Stock Management in Northeastern Mt. Malindang.

The annual research competition was sponsored by the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (PCAMRD) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). (USEP/PIA-XI)
