DAVAO CITY, Philippines – The city government will distribute 10,000 ration cards for families affected by the strict community quarantine and lockdown due to the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19).

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced on a radio interview Friday that this ration cards will be distributed soon by the City Social Services and Development Office.

Food packs good for six days are also being prepared by the local government. The distribution is set from March 23 to 25 but will prioritize barangays who could provide a master list of beneficiaries.

Davao City has an urban population of 1,474,880 based on the 2015 census.

The city outlines those who will be qualified for ration are:
1. indigents and out of work;
2. contractual workers, daily wage earners and those who are out of work and on self-quarantined;
3. Self-employed and out of work such as vendors and massage therapists in the now-closed down Roxas night market and City Hall grounds.

The validation of beneficiaries will come from the barangay units and social workers preparing their respective master list.

Mayor Duterte, who is head of Task Force Covid-19 Davao Region, also said that she had held meetings with municipal mayors to conduct relief operations in towns outside Davao City.

The mayor, however, warned the private sector to refrain from conducting their own relief activities to communities and must coordinate with the CSSDO.

Duterte-Carpio said this is to ensure there will be no mass gatherings on these relief activities which is part of the restrictions under the community quarantine.

“What you will do will create chaos and mass gathering. So please do not do that,” the mayor said.(davaotoday.com)
