TAGUM CITY, Philippines—Around 1,300 residents with hearing impairments in Davao City will soon receive free hearing aids from Starkey Hearing Foundation, the Davao City Information Office announced on Thursday, November 2.

The US-based group is set to distribute the hearing aids from November 27 to 30, according to Megan Baiocchi, Starkey International Development director for Asia Pacific Region.

Starkey, one of the world’s major players in the hearing aid industry, Baiocchi said has embarked on a sustainable hearing program and is actively involved in the Philippines.

“We have 6,000 patients in five cities including Davao,” she noted, adding that the group’s program in the country has been considered the strongest program worldwide.

In August, the Starkey Foundation, headed by Country Coordinator Ellaine Dimayuga, had conducted a mission in the city where qualified applicants availed a free ear screening and check-up.

The mission was conducted in coordination with the City Health Office.

City Health Office Chief Dr. Josephine Villafuerte said this is the first time for the foundation to provide free screening and free hearing aids in the city.(davaotoday.com
